A 19-year-old North Vancouver man has been charged with manslaughter after an alleged domestic dispute resulted in the death of his mother.
Just after 6 p.m. Monday, RCMP was called to a home in the 300-block of East 1st Street for reports of a dispute and possible assault in the home.
Officers reportedly forced their way into the apartment after hearing sounds of a struggle. A young man was seen escaping over a balcony, and a 58-year-old woman was found with critical injuries.
The woman was rushed to hospital and put on life support, but died Tuesday evening. Neighbours have identified the victim as Christine Grube Lefkove, the teenage accused’s mother.
RCMP quickly arrested the young man, IHIT Sgt. Stephanie Ashton confirmed.
“North Van RCMP was able to get there very quickly as a result of the help from the public notifying them something was happening,” said Ashton. “As a result they were able to take someone into custody very quickly.”
Alex Lefkove has been arrested and charged with manslaughter. He appeared in North Vancouver's provincial court on Wednesday, and his bail hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 2.
