A Surrey high school was in lockdown for more than an hour as RCMP investigated a weapons call in the area.

RCMP were called to a residence in the 9700 block of 160th Street on Thursday afternoon, for an unconfirmed report of a person with a gun.

North Surrey Secondary School initiated a lockdown based on a request from RCMP as the officers responded to the home near the school. Police said the lockdown was just a precaution.

The school is no longer locked down, and all students and staff were told to leave or be picked up by the southwest corner of the building.

Officers have provided few details, but seven people in handcuffs could be seen on the sidewalk across from the school from CTV's Chopper 9 as it flew over the scene.

Police later said that "several persons" had been detained, and that the incident was resolved peacefully. In a statement, RCMP said investigators are determining whether any charges are appropriate, and will update the media Friday morning.

Approximately 20 police cruisers and one ambulance could be seen in the area during the incident.
