A pilot was killed in a float plane crash in Williams Lake on Saturday night.

RCMP says the plane took off from the town around 1:40 p.m., and was due to return at 5 p.m. When it did not return, a Search and Rescue team from Comox was dispatched, and the team found the downed plane near the Fraser River, about nine kilometres northwest of Williams Lake.

Police say the pilot was the only occupant in the aircraft. The investigation is ongoing and the pilot's name has not been released at this time.

In May, three people were also killed after their private float plane plummeted to the ground and burst into flames in the Central Okanagan.
