A 54-year-old man found dead in a Surrey home Sunday night is believed to have met with foul play, according to Metro Vancouver’s homicide investigation team.
Police found Larry Robert Mizen's body in a basement suite after responding to calls of a disturbance at 136 Street and 110A Avenue around 8:30 p.m.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has since been called to take conduct of the case.
Though the circumstances of the death appear suspicious, IHIT said an autopsy is required to confirm the cause.
"We can say that upon attendance it was apparent that the individual suffered injuries that were consistent with foul play," Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound said.
Mizen was known to police.
Neighbours told CTV News that before police arrived, they could hear some kind of argument between up to three people on the street.
“My wife was telling me there was a big argument outside, and then cops show up, ambulance,” said Roy Garratt.
Some witnesses seen speaking to investigators were taken to a Surrey RCMP detachment for questioning.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
