Three separate families have lost their homes, after an early morning fire in the 400 block of Ridgeway Avenue in North Vancouver.
The fire started at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday in the detached house, which was split into three separate suites.
“We’ve got about 11 to 12 people displaced here today,” said Chief Dan Pistilli from the North Vancouver Fire Department.
One of those is Wendy Devine. She woke to see flames and smoke inside her home.
“That’s when I started shouting and just told everybody, ‘There’s fire!’” she said.
“So I just grabbed my daughter, and I told my husband to grab my baby, and I started banging on everyone’s rooms.”
All of the residents were able to get out.
“Nobody’s injured at this time,” said Chief Pistilli. “Everybody got out safely.”
Wendy Devine had family visiting from Ireland. She has lost most of her possessions, but is thankful.
“I’m glad everyone is safe,” she said.
Investigators are now trying to figure out how the fire started.
