A man has come forward and identified himself as the driver in the hit-and-run that injured cyclist Bruce Rickman last month.
Coquitlam RCMP said he turned himself in on Saturday and is cooperating with investigators. Mounties also seized his 2007 Toyota Tacoma, which matches the suspect vehicle description RCMP released on Friday.
Despite the development, Cpl. Jamie Chung said the probe into the July 30 accident on the Mary Hill Bypass, which left Rickman fighting for his life in hospital, is ongoing.
“We still need anyone with any information, no matter how minor you may think it is, to tell investigators what you know. Sometimes the most ‘trivial’ evidence can impact an investigation enormously,” Chung said in a statement.
Rickman is a veteran bus driver, and was biking home from work late at night when he was struck.
On Friday, Mounties said Rickman was set to be released from the Intensive Care Unit, but Chung could not provide an update on his current condition except to say that he’s not “getting any worse.”
His family has asked for privacy.
