Victoria police say the death of man whose badly decayed body was found in Beacon Hill Park is not suspicious, and that the man was likely homeless.
Investigators were alerted to the body by a person walking through the popular park at around 7 a.m.
Poilce said the body of the 49-year-old male was discovered in a hidden area of the park where it likely went unnoticed for days.
“We know the body’s been here for a while because it was in an advanced state of decay, however we’re having the coroner look into more details,” said Const. Brett Stewart.
The death does not appear to be suspicious. Investigators are working to positively identify the remains, but police believe the man was known to them.
“Victoria’s a small city with a large homeless population, we’re all aware, and we believe this may be one of our homeless population who has camped out for the night and unfortunately passed during his sleep,” Stewart said.
An investigation is ongoing.
