Police were called to a home in Delta Thursday afternoon for reports of a serious assault.

Few details were provided but the Delta Police Department issued a statement saying officers were called to a residence on the 8000 block of 117 Street.

"One person has been transported to hospital with serious injuries. One male has been arrested," authorities said, later clarifying in a follow-up email that "the injured person is female."

A road closure on 117 Street between 80th and 80A avenues was expected to remain in effect for several hours.

"Investigators have confirmed this is not a random attack and there is no public safety risk," the statement form police concluded.
