The snowfall warnings have been lifted across B.C.'s South Coast, but the problems remain after a wintry blast swept through the region Wednesday.
All elementary and secondary schools in the Fraser Valley school district of Mission and in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith district on Vancouver Island are closed today.
Schools in Maple-Ridge and Pitt Meadows schools are open, but buses are running on snow routes only.
Nanaimo was one of the areas hardest hit by snowfall overnight, with as much as 20 centimetres blanketing the region. Campbell River was pelted with sleet and ice, and blizzard conditions kept drivers off the roads.
Parts of the Fraser Valley were also hard hit, creating dangerous and slippery conditions on roadways.
Abbotsford and Chilliwack are still reporting icy conditions and RCMP say drivers should be prepared for slowdowns and winter driving.
Snowfall warnings remain in effect for southern parts of the Okanagan and in the Similkameen, Boundary and Elk Valley.

Late Thursday night, RCMP closed Highway 99 northbound from King George Highway to the Matthews Transit Exchange because of several weather-related car crashes.
