Police in Greater Victoria are looking for witnesses to a Christmas Eve hit-and-run and assault.

The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. on Dec. 24 as the driver of a grey 2011 Mercedes GLK350 was travelling south on the Trans Canada Highway in View Royal, West Shore RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

As the Mercedes was in the right lane to exit via the Helmcken off ramp, a driver in a black Volkswagen Jetta side-swiped it, Mounties said.

Both drivers pulled over, but the Jetta driver allegedly assaulted the Mercedes driver, then left the scene without exchanging information with the other driver, police said.

The Mercedes driver suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Investigators described the suspect as a white man in his early 40s with short black hair and a black beard. He stands roughly 5'10" to 6' tall and was wearing glasses, a black shirt and black jeans at the time of the incident, police said.

The suspect vehicle is a black Volkswagen Jetta with an "unknown licence plate," Mounties said.

They asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam video that may have captured the incident to contact them at 250-474-2264. Tips can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
