Traffic grows as good intentions wane

Metro Vancouver residents are hopping back into their cars, prompting a warning from Vancouver's transportation team.

Five days remain until the closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games and the city says street closures will be ramped up as February 28th approaches.

Among other things, the Cambie Street bridge leading to and from the downtown core will be shut down for most of Sunday.

Vancouver drivers have responded to calls for a 30 per cent reduction in vehicle trips, to accommodate Games traffic -- but city officials say congestion is growing as those good intentions wane.

  With many downtown Vancouver parking metres now designated for Olympic-only traffic lanes, parking lots will be the only option for many people driving to 2010 events or driving to work. But expect to pay a premium if you choose to bring your car into the city.
