A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a series of violent cell phone robberies committed earlier this year in Surrey.

Three cell retailers were targeted in the robberies, all committed in the City Centre and Newton areas between March 25 and April 17.

In one instance, the suspects threatened staff with machetes before tying them up.

On Wednesday, Cpl. Bert Paquet confirmed four counts of robbery have been approved against a single youth suspect, and more charges may be coming.

“Our officers are now focusing their efforts on bringing further criminal charges against other persons believed to be involved in these offences,” Paquet said in a release.

Anyone with information on the robberies is asked to call the Surrey RCMP Robbery Section at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stopper at 1-800-222-877 if they wish to remain anonymous.
