A man who claimed he was stabbed in the back following a fight at a Nanaimo nightclub actually fell on a pile of glasses he had knocked onto the floor, according to police.
The 23-year-old was injured at the Level 2 Dance and Lounge at around midnight on Dec. 2, and told police an unknown man had stabbed him.
Const. Gary O'Brien said that for the next month, investigators spoke with bar staff, customers and friends of the alleged victim. They also obtained surveillance video from the club.
"Our investigation has determined the male had been leaning against a table when he lost his balance, knocking several glasses to the floor," O'Brien said in a release.
"He in turn fell on the glass and suffered the wound to his lower back."
Mounties say the investigation is now closed and no charges are being considered.
