About 13 centimetres of snow fell overnight in Metro Vancouver, causing travel delays and school closures Wednesday.
The snow created havoc at Vancouver International Airport with dozens of flight cancellations and over 40 delays, mostly affecting flights within B.C. where airports are blanketed in snow, according to spokesperson Alana Lawrence.
Travellers flying today can check www.yvr.ca for up-to-date flight information.
Roads were slippery but mostly bare or slushy for Lower Mainland commuters as the snow turned to rain Wednesday morning.
TransLink spokesperson Drew Snider said in a press release that there were minimal SkyTrain and Canada Line delays and many buses were running ‘considerably behind schedule,' especially in the Tri-Cities, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
Classes are cancelled at Simon Fraser University's Burnaby Mountain campus and Douglas College in New Westminster.
All public schools in Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack are closed as well.
The snowfall warning has been lifted and rain will continue to fall Wednesday. Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the Fraser Valley.
