A 98-year-old man is awaiting surgery for a broken hip after police say he was pushed to the ground by a suspect in an attempted robbery at a Vancouver Island Walmart store.
Nanaimo RCMP say that the "heartless" suspect was trying to shoplift DVDs on Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. when he was noticed by store security.
He took off running when the security guard tried to arrest him, and shoved the elderly man to the ground in his hurry to get out of the store.
The senior citizen broke his hip in the fall and will require surgery.
Police have released security images of the young, white male suspect, and are asking for the public's help in identifying him. Anyone with information about the attempted robbery can call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
