OTTAWA -- The Transportation Safety Board says the pilot of a small plane killed in a crash Saturday near Tofino, B.C., was the only person on board.
The BC Coroners' Service said Monday that the man who died was from the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island and he was in his 70s.
The safety board says in an investigation page released Tuesday that the man was flying a privately-operated Cessna 172.
The destroyed aircraft was found Sunday in a remote location near Sydney Inlet Provincial Park, about 24 nautical miles northwest of Tofino.
The board says it will undertake a Class 4 investigation, which limits the scope of its probe but could include findings or recommendations.
It says such investigations are generally completed within 200 days.
