A series of maps detailing unannounced road closures during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C., have been released to the public by civil rights advocates.

Olympic organizing committee VANOC released a list of road closures in March 2009, detailing a number of road closures, parking restrictions and pedestrian corridors.

But new documents -- obtained by the BC Civil Liberties Association using Freedom of Information requests -- detail a number of previously unannounced streets that could be subject to closure or restricted access at some point in the duration of the Games.

"In some cases, where the official plan indicates only parking restrictions, [the documents] indicate full street closures," BCCLA spokesperson Carmen Cheung said.

Cheung says the association asked the Olympics' Integrated Security Unit to confirm or deny the documents in July, but was repeatedly ignored.

"Only the ISU knows completely what the closures will be around the Games and the restrictions for home care workers, employees and residents inside security perimeters," Cheung said.

Seven prominent Vancouver neighbourhoods are featured, from the downtown core to the University of British Columbia on the city's west side. The maps are viewable below:

"There are only six months until the Olympics, and residents and businesses still don't have access to adequate information to plan for closures of streets around their homes, offices and stores," she said.

Because they have not been confirmed by the ISU or VANOC, the plans released by the Civil Liberties Association are not guaranteed to be complete or accurate.
