Solicitor-General Rich Coleman announced Wednesday that he is supporting Kevin Falcon for leader of the BC Liberal Party and the province's next premier.
"There's no question in my mind that Kevin Falcon is the best candidate to lead our caucus and our free enterprise coalition into the next election," Coleman said in a press release.
Rumoured that he might run for leadership himself, Coleman announced on Dec. 1 that he would not join the race because of the demands it would place on his family.
The MLA for Fort Langley-Aldergrove said that Falcon has what it takes to reconnect the party with British Columbians and defeat the NDP's next leader, whoever that may be. No candidates have announced leadership bids to take over Carole James' leadership role in the rival party.
Coleman becomes the 13th BC Liberal caucus member and fifth cabinet minister to join Falcon's leadership campaign.
Falcon said that Coleman's track record working to solve homelessness and experience as public safety minister will provide valuable insight in his bid.
"We share common views on a wide range of issues, but we also know the strength that comes from having different perspectives on the same team," Falcon said.
Campaigns are in full swing as Falcon, Christy Clark, Mike de Jong, George Abbott and Moira Stilwell head into the final weeks of the race before the Feb. 26 vote.
Falcon is the first candidate to use mobile technology to connect with the public in his bid for leader. He launched his iPhone app on Tuesday, which allows users to weigh in on the HST referendum, contact him and sign up to volunteer with his campaign.
