Homes and businesses in a busy part of downtown Vancouver were evacuated Monday morning as police investigated a suspicious package in a planter.
The package, which investigators determined to be a replica explosive device, was spotted in the courtyard of a building near Hornby and Helmcken streets around 10:30 a.m.
Police, firefighters, and an Explosives Disposal Unit were all dispatched to the scene.
Sgt. Randy Fincham said the device didn’t pose a threat to anyone’s safety, and the situation was resolved within about two hours.
Police are still working to determine who left the package in the planter.
