Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver and is warning residents that heavy precipitation could lead to localized flooding.

Parts of the North Shore and the Fraser Valley were expected to get the most rain – up to 50 millimetres – as many residents were faced with a morning commute on slick roads.

Environment Canada also warned that because the ground is already so waterlogged, the rain has nowhere to go, creating the possibility of localized flooding.

Officials are urging people to stay away from creeks, rivers and culverts, especially if they have children or pets.

The heavy rain is expected to diminish by Tuesday morning as a storm front moves away from the region.
