Police are investigating an early-morning assault in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant in downtown Victoria.

The Victoria Police Department says officers were called to an assault in progress in the 900 block of Pandora Avenue at approximately 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

In a statement on social media, the department said one male suspect reportedly kicked another male in the face.

Speaking at the scene, Sgt. Craig Barker said officers found the injured man lying unconscious on his stomach in the parking lot.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

A suspect was apprehended in the area and is being held in custody, Barker said.

The McDonald's remained behind police tape for much of the morning with multiple police investigators on scene taking photos and collecting evidence.
