The Coquitlam RCMP’s major crimes unit is investigating a shooting that happened inside a Port Coquitlam home early Christmas morning.
Police were called to a suite inside a home at 2450 Kitchener Avenue shortly after 5 a.m.
They found a 39-year-old man suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
“I heard my roommate come upstairs and say he was shot. I had to call 911 for him,” said Bea Hiebert who lives upstairs from the victim. “He got shot through his thigh and it went through both of his legs. He was sleeping when it happened so that was even scarier.”
The victim is recovering in hospital and police are looking for multiple suspects.
“They just came in, did that, and they left right away. I guess it took less than five minutes. They were out of the house,” said Hiebert.
Police detained several tenants of the home for questioning but all were later released.
Investigators removed multiple bags and suitcases from the home and a police dog was brought in to search the area.
Some neighbours were too frightened to speak on camera to CTV News but said they weren't surprised to see yellow tape up at the home.
They said the tenants have only been in the home for a few months, making a mess of the property and a lot of noise at night.
Police continue to search for suspects but said there is no threat to the general public.
