Mounties search for suspects after cash stolen from bank in Nanaimo, B.C.
Mounties are searching for two suspects who allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash from a bank on Vancouver Island.
No threats were made and no weapons were produced during what the Nanaimo RCMP described in a statement as a "crime of opportunity."
According to police, the theft occurred at a Bank of Montreal branch located at 6908 Island Hwy. at approximately 1:45 p.m. Friday.
Bank employees told investigators that a customer was in the process of withdrawing money from the bank when a man who was waiting in line snatched the money and promptly left with a woman who police described as an accomplice.
Mounties were on scene within minutes of the theft, but were unable to locate the suspects, the Nanaimo RCMP said in a statement Monday.
No injuries were reported as a result of the theft, according to police.
The male suspect is described as standing approximately 6'3" tall and was wearing dark clothing, sunglasses and a black medical mask.
The only description provided of the female accomplice was that she was wearing grey sweatpants and white running shoes.
According to investigators, the suspects may have left the area in a dark-coloured pickup truck.
Surveillance video from the bank was not immediately available to police, the Nanaimo RCMP said.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
