Two men, who suffered horrific losses in a fire that ripped through a Burnaby apartment building earlier this week, met for the first time on Friday.

Bob Nath lost his mother in the fire and his brother Ravi was badly burned trying to save the other man's eight-year-old son Joshua.

The boy's father Murray Peng told CTV News that he needed to meet Bob to say thanks for his brother's efforts.

"He's a hero and you should be proud of him,'' Peng told Nath.

Joshua remains in a coma with burns to most of his body, and faces a long road to recovery

"I think he is making progress and the doctors are cautiously optimistic," said Peng

Bob wanted to meet Murray because brother Ravi has been asking about Joshua from his hospital bed.

Ravi is improving every day and wants to meet the little boy that he ran back to save.
