Mounties have confirmed one man is dead after a small plane crashed in a Surrey field Friday afternoon.

Witnesses saw the recreational plane, a Kitfox model, turning eastbound before it went down near Highway 99 and King George Boulevard around 3 p.m.

Four ambulances and one air ambulance were dispatched to the crash and paramedics found the pilot, who was the only person on board, at the scene.

He has since been pronounced dead.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released. Mounties said both the BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board have been notified.
