A 29-year-old man has been arrested after police allegedly found him drunk and passed out behind the wheel of his SUV at a 7-Eleven in Abbotsford.
Officers were called to the convenience store on Immel Street around 11 p.m. Monday and found the man asleep in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
“Police and medical crews arrived on scene and had difficulty waking the male up due to his level of intoxication,” Const. Paul Walker told CTV News in an email.
The man had a bottle of rye whiskey in his hand, Walker added. Footage from the scene shows the vehicle's windshield wipers were activated.
Police said after they finally managed to wake the man up, he was given a roadside breathalyzer test and failed. He was issued a driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
Walker said investigators eventually determined the man was involved in a theft at a liquor store earlier in the night in the same area.
The suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, is facing a charge of theft under $5,000.
Walker said the suspect was not known to police before Monday night.
