The B.C. Lions have called a news conference for Friday when, according to multiple sources, it is expected they will announce that Vancouver is hosting the 2011 Grey Cup.

Lions' owner, president and CEO David Braley will be in attendance.

It would mark the 15th time the city has hosted the CFL's prestigious championship game.

The last time Vancouver hosted the Grey Cup was 2005, when the Edmonton Eskimos beat the Montreal Alouettes 38-35 in overtime. Fifty years earlier in 1955, it was the same two teams squaring off when Vancouver housed the big game for the very first time. The Eskimos also won that game 34-19.

Radio station CKNW in Vancouver is reporting that the Lions will also make an announcement Friday regarding renovations to BC Place Stadium. The venue will be in use for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Just this past Tuesday, it was announced that Edmonton will be hosting the Grey Cup in 2010.

Calgary is the host of this year's edition.

In the 2008 game, the Calgary Stampeders beat the Montreal Alouettes 22-14 in Montreal.
