Four people face mischief charges after a protest on the Lions Gate Bridge disrupted traffic for more than two hours on the busy commuter route early Wednesday morning.

Around 6 a.m., two members of the fathers' rights group, Fathers4Justice, occupied the east side of the bridge. The duo chained themselves to the bridge deck and unfurled a large banner.

Police shut down the centre lane of traffic to deal with the demonstrators.

The pair was arrested around 8:30 a.m., as were two others associated with the protest, said Cst. Jeff Palmer of the West Vancouver Police.

Commuters leaving the North Shore were encouraged to take the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge to avoid the heavy traffic volume.

Fathers4Justice is a fathers' rights organization that began in the United Kingdom. It champions the cause of equal parenting.

A group of anarchist protesters attempted to shut down the Lions Gate Bridge last weekend, but were stopped by police before they got there.
