A man suspected of leading a group that smashed windows and vandalized property in downtown Vancouver over the weekend has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

Police said the man -- a self-described anarchist -- was dressed in black, wore a hood, and used an air horn, as he led the group through downtown streets Saturday.

The vandals broke windows and spray painted cars.

The same man, police said, led a group that set up a barbed wire barricade at an intersection the day before, forcing the Olympic torch relay to be diverted.

Guillame Joseph-Marc Beaulieu, 27, of Vancouver, has been charged with mischief over $5,000.

Police also announced an arrest in connection with the alleged assault of two journalists during a protest march.

Lliam Brander, 27, of North Vancouver, has been charged with assault.

There have been a total of 11 arrests stemming from the weekend violence.

They include five people who have been charged with disturbing the peace, assault, assault on an officer and mischief, police said.

A group calling itself the Black Bloc issued a news release Tuesday morning saying that breaking windows does not amount to violence.

"We proved that $1 billion of 'security' couldn't prevent us from clogging the heart of downtown Vancouver and crashing a party of 100 000 people -- and getting away with it," the group wrote.

Those representing other groups critical of the Games have worked to distance themselves from the Black Bloc.
