RCMP in the northeastern B.C. community of Tumbler Ridge confirm one man is dead following a residential explosion that scattered debris for hundreds of metres and left little more than the foundation remaining.

The blast happened early Sunday morning and investigators believe a natural gas line may have been tampered with prior to the explosion.

They have not released the name of the victim.

Police say the incident appears isolated and they do not believe anyone else in the small community is in danger.

Two homes on either side of the demolished house are badly damaged and 24 others in the neighbourhood have shattered windows or roof damage.

No one else was seriously injured.
