A lockdown at a Delta, B.C., school has ended and the man whose air rifle triggered a standoff with police has been taken into custody.
Students, parents and teachers were safely locked inside Jarvis Elementary School on 118 Street for about two hours beginning sometime after 3:30 p.m. when the standoff began. Most students had already been dismissed when the lockdown started.
The suspected gunman had barricaded himself inside a house about a block away from the school.
Delta police Sgt. Sharlene Brooks told CTV News that the man was first reported standing outside the home. "He appeared to be waving a gun around," she said.
The gun later turned out to be an air rifle.
He was taken into custody by the Delta Police Department's emergency response team.
