BC Federation of Labour is renewing its call for a February holiday in the province.

The call for a statutory holiday comes as many provinces across Canada celebrate a long weekend because of Family Day.

Americans will also get a long weekend as a result of President's Day on Monday Feb. 21.

Evan Stewart with the Federation says B.C. is one of the few jurisdictions in North American that has no public holiday between New Year's Day and Easter.

The Federation is calling on all of the BC Liberal leadership contestants to endorse a February holiday.

Stewart says the BC Liberals need to approve the much needed holiday despite opposition from many business groups.
