A large pane of glass plummeted from the Trump Tower construction site and smashed on the street in downtown Vancouver Tuesday, damaging a car and briefly closing a major traffic artery.
Construction manager Allan Beron said the pane was being installed on the 59th floor of the 63-storey tower when it came crashing down around 2:45 p.m.
“Fortunately no one was injured,” he said. “We’re currently doing an investigation in coordination with WorkSafe BC and will make further comment once that’s complete.”
Vancouver police said one car was damaged but didn’t specify to what extent.
Beron couldn’t comment on the cause of the accident, or confirm whether the street was blocked off when the pane fell.
“The road was closed to clean it up,” he said.
Crews managed to sweep away the glass and debris quickly, but traffic was halted on busy Georgia Street between Thurlow and Bute for about half an hour.
The Trump Tower, a $360 million hotel-condo being built by developer Holborn Group, is expected to be completed by fall 2016.
