The Fraser Health Authority will cut thousands of elective surgeries and cancel several programs to try to avoid a deficit of up to $160 million.
NDP health critic Adrian Dix says the cuts outlined in a fact sheet presented at the health authority's board meeting Thursday confirm leaked material he revealed last month.
Fraser Health spokesman Roy Thorpe says all the things in the fact sheet were announced previously.
But Dix says Fraser Health CEO Dr. Nigel Murray had dismissed the leaked material as planning documents.
The following cuts are included in the official Fraser Health news release:
- 10 to 15 per cent of scheduled surgeries from September 09 to March 10
- 11 contracts for mental health services
- Closing the contract for the New Westminster Domestic Violence Response Team
- 12 seniors programs in Abbotsford, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Langley, Maple Ridge, Mission, New Westminster and White Rock
- Downgrade Mission Memorial emergency room
The board also hopes to collect $2 million in new fees for ambulance transfers.
