A small apartment fire caused a stir on Granville Street on Monday night, temporarily halting traffic just north of the busy Broadway intersection.

The first-alarm fire was reported just after 7 p.m. at a building in the 2400-block of Granville. Emergency vehicles blocked all six lanes of traffic while crews worked to squelch the flames.

No one was injured.

Vancouver Fire Department Batallion Chief Doug Steele said his team made short work of the fire, securing the building within an hour.

"There was pretty good damage to two suites up there but they knocked it down real quick and prevented the spread," he said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Steele said it could have been wiring.

"It's an old building. There's lots of reconstruction going on in there."

The building, located near the corner of 8th Avenue, also houses a gift shop and an art gallery.
