Firefighters were called out to the new Canada Line station in Yaletown just before 6 a.m. Friday morning for a small electrical fire.

Vancouver fire battalion chief Laurie Martin said crews found a hydraulic lift on fire when they arrived at the underground station at Davie Street and Pacific Boulevard.

Crews had to go three stories below ground to extinguish the flames.

A spokesperson for Canada Line says the fire started when the electric charger for the lift overheated.

No one was injured, and no workers were on site at the time of the fire.

Construction on the Canada Line rail route is expected to be finished in November 2009.
