Mounties are investigating after a female cyclist was fatally struck in Richmond Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses told RCMP the cyclist was stopped and waiting to turn onto Russ Baker Way when she was hit shortly before 4 p.m.
She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries less than a half hour later.
Her name and age haven’t been released.
Mounties said the driver remained at the scene and provided a statement. It’s unclear whether speed or alcohol were factors in the accident.
Richmond RCMP warned the northbound lanes of Russ Baker Way near Gilbert Road will likely be closed for several hours. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
