B.C. fans of The Tragically Hip hoping to see the band on their final tour this summer found themselves out of luck when tickets sold out in mere minutes, only to resurface on reseller sites for a much higher price.

Almost every ticket for the four Vancouver and Victoria concert dates of the Man Machine Poem Tour were gone within two minutes of them being listed on the Ticketmaster website at 10 a.m.

Fans using the Ticketmaster website were instead pushed to partner websites that sell tickets at a premium price.

More than 1,000 tickets for the two shows at Vancouver's Rogers Arena were available on StubHub, although marked up dramatically in price.

Some seats for the Victoria show were being sold through Ticketmaster as "premium" for $650.

The situation was the same in Toronto, where tickets sold out quickly, but thousands of tickets showed up on StubHub within half an hour. Some were being sold for 20 times the ticket price.

The upcoming summer tour is expected to be the last for the iconic Canadian band, following news that lead singer Gord Downie has terminal brain cancer.

The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be extra cautious when trying to purchase re-sold concert tickets, saying the situation has created "the perfect storm" for ticket scams.

“Limited shows, a dying Canadian icon, and a country of fans who regard the band as something that defines Canadians. It simply generates the kind of demand scammers love, and the risk ticket buyers may try to take to be a part of history," said spokesperson Evan Kelly.

"This will be an emotional draining tour for everyone. We just want people to be careful.”
