The family of 31-year-old actor Cory Monteith has requested donations in his name to three charities, including Project Limelight, an eastside Vancouver theatre program for at-risk youth.
Project Limelight was close to the 'Glee' star's heart -- he said he supported it because he found much-needed direction when he discovered acting, and he wanted others to have the same experience.
Co-founder Maureen Webb says her organization is expressing its most sincere gratitude for Monteith's support.
"We are deeply saddened by the unexpected death of our good friend, Cory Monteith," a statement on the charity's website reads.
"Cory was an amazing young man with a generous heart. He has been a supporter of Project Limelight Society from the very beginning, and will always be an important part of our story."
Webb and co-founder Donalda Weaver say in memorium donations are intensely personal and they are moved that those closest to Monteith chose Project Limelight as one of the charities to commemorate his work.
