VICTORIA - An investigation is getting underway in Victoria's Inner Harbour as a seaplane dock floats upside down and shattered, and the ferry that hit it continues to chug in and out of the busy port.
The Coho Ferry, which crosses the Strait of Juan de Fuca, between Victoria and Port Angeles, WA., crushed the floating dock as it backed out of its berth in Victoria at about 7:30 Wednesday night.
No one was hurt, no planes or boats were damaged, and the 104-metre MV Coho continued on its journey, and maintained its four scheduled crossings of the strait on Thursday.
Now officials are trying to determine why the ship, which has made thousands of visits to Victoria, hit the dock, cutting it in half.
Conditions were windy at the time, but Ryan Burles, the president of Black Ball Ferries, the company that runs the MV Coho, says the captain is a 15-year veteran and the crew is very experienced.
Burles couldn't explain why the ferry kept going right after the crash but expects an investigation will produce some answers.
