Site of former Buddhist monastery in southern B.C. listed for $3M
The site of a former Buddhist monastery and spiritual retreat in southern British Columbia has been listed for sale at just over $3 million.
The 219-acre property is located in the community of Westbridge, approximately 120 kilometres south of Kelowna, on the "serene banks of the Kettle River," according to the listing.
"Multiple homes, cabins, and buildings dot the landscape, providing ample space for personal use, rentals, or projects," it reads. "A small orchard adds to the charm and potential of this expansive property."
The riverside location was previously home to the Skycliffe Monastery and Life Science Centre – operated by HÜMÜH, a "modern western tradition of Buddhism" started in 1992, per the group's website – which once held a weekly service open to the public, and welcomed visitors to explore the grounds.
The property included a dome-shaped building used as stupa, or place of meditation. It's unclear if the structure, which is not pictured on the real estate listing, remains at the site.
CTV News has reached out to the Realtor representing the property for more information.
"Embrace the tranquility and natural beauty of the Kettle River while creating your own unique legacy in this extraordinary setting," the listing reads.
With the asking price of $3,049,900, a buyer who made a 20 per cent down payment would pay an estimated $13,491 monthly for the mortgage, with a 4.49 per cent interest rate and 25-year amortization period, according to an online calculator.
