Vancouver police are warning women to be extra vigilant after a violent sexual assault near a SkyTrain station Friday night.
A 27-year-old Vancouver woman was leaving the Nanaimo Street station just after 8 p.m. when a man pushed her to the ground from behind.
He then began grabbing her breasts.
The man cupped his hand over her mouth and told her not to scream.
The woman bit him, and the commotion drew the attention of passing motorists. One driver yelled at the suspect - scaring him away.
He took off running down Vanness Avenue.
Police are looking for a man in his 40s, with a medium build and short graying hair. He was wearing a blue shirt and jeans.
The victim was wearing headphones when she left the station.
SkyTrain spokesman, Drew Snider, says the attack is a reminder for transit users to be extra aware of their surroundings near stations, especially at night.
"Don't do anything that's going to distract you, like talk on a cell phone, or use a personal music device," says Snider.
"Aware people are safe people."
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call 911.
