Two people have been arrested after a man was stabbed while travelling on SkyTrain in east Vancouver Monday evening.

The male victim was stabbed twice in the back as he was travelling between Broadway and Nanaimo Stations at approximately 6:30 p.m.

SkyTrain attendants and transit police attended both stations after passengers activated the network's silent alarm and contacted the control centre through a voice intercom system.

The female suspect fled the scene but was arrested shortly afterward by Vancouver Police, and another man was arrested in connection with the incidents that took place before the stabbing.

SkyTrain spokesperson Drew Snider says the stabbing may have occurred in self-defence.

The system resumed normal operations after a brief outage.
