The season hasn't even started yet, and already the minds behind an NHL video game have bad news for fans of the Vancouver Canucks.
EA Games revealed the results of its annual simulation on Thursday, showing the Canucks ending the season with a dismal 63 points. The simulation is based on EA's recently released game NHL 17.
If the results of NHL 17 are to be trusted, the Canucks will place last this season not only in the Western Conference, but in the entire league.
Although the results of the simulation are only based on a game, fans have reason to worry with the team finishing last season with only 75 points. The team finished second-to-last in the conference beating Edmonton by five points.
Most of the NHL's other Canadian teams didn't fare much better, with Calgary ending the season with 84 points and Edmonton with 85. With Edmonton in 8th and Calgary in 9th, Winnipeg landed in 11th place in the west with 82 points.
In the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Maple Leafs eked into the 8th spot with 91 points, while the Ottawa Senators placed 11th with 87 points.
In Montreal, however, the Canadiens were led into postseason with 99 points thanks to "a healthy Carey Price," bringing the team to second place in the conference.
The simulation ended with the Habs facing off against the Nashville Predators.
"The Nashville Predators continue their regular season dominance and win the Stanley Cup Finals in Game 6," EA Games wrote Thursday.
"Filip Forsberg takes home the Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff MVP after registering 26 points in the postseason."
