A fight during Tuesday night's game against Minnesota netted Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien a 10-minute misconduct, but what happened off the ice afterwards has landed him an indefinite suspension with the NHL.
The league announced Wednesday morning Rypien has been suspended pending an investigation for grabbing a fan on his way to the dressing room.
While heading down the tunnel after being assessed a double minor for roughing, Rypien shoved a cheering jersey-clad Wild fan, who was applauding from his seat.
He was quickly pulled back by teammate Manny Malhotra. The fan, who gave high fives to other Wild fans while being removed by security, was re-seated shortly after -- away from the Canucks bench.
NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell is expected to have a hearing with Rypien to determine the length of the suspension.
The ‘Nucks face off against the Blackhawks in Chicago Wednesday night.
Campbell has issued five suspensions and four fines in the last 10 days.
The Star Tribune newspaper is reporting that the fan is seeking legal representation.
Have your say -- should Rypien be suspended for shoving a fan?
