The Peardonville overpass on Highway 1 in Abbotsford is open again Wednesday morning after police spent the night there investigating a disturbing scene.
Responding to a fire call under the overpass around 9 p.m., crews discovered a body among the ashes of a burned-out shelter under the bridge.
There is some indication it may have been a homeless person who died. Abbotsford Police are still trying to determine if the fire was accidentally or deliberately set.
B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation team is on the case, as well as fire officials and the coroner. The victim's identity has not been released.
In December, a homeless woman burned to death after her the contents of her shopping cart caught fire in downtown Vancouver.
Police believe she was trying to keep warm in the -10 C night with a candle or heater and her blankets caught fire.
