A girl riding in the open trunk of a car is dead, and almost a dozen other teens who were stuffed into two cars are injured, after a crash police say may have been caused by street racing.
A 14-year-old and another girl were in the open trunk of a Kia Rio near Montreal when the driver tried to pass another car. He lost control, hitting a larger car, sending the Kia rolling down an embankment.
The 14-year-old girl was thrown to her death from the impact.
There were seven teens crammed into the Kia, and five teens in the other car. All of them sustained injuries.
A 15-year-old boy who was in the backseat of the Kia was fighting for his life in hospital Sunday.
The crash happened in St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que., about a 40 minute drive south-east of Montreal.
Police are looking into possible causes, including whether the drivers were street racing.
Both drivers of the cars, 17, are facing a string of charges including dangerous driving causing death.
