NANAIMO, B.C. - Mounties in Nanaimo, B.C., are investigating the death of a 10-month-old baby boy.
An ambulance was called Sunday morning after the child's caregivers found the baby wasn't breathing.
Police say the baby had been sleeping in a car seat in the home when he was discovered unconscious.
A one-year-old girl who was also in the home at the time is in the custody of the Ministry of Children and Families.
RCMP say members of the Serious Crimes Unit secured the home and seized various items for their investigation.
No charges have been laid and an autopsy will be conducted on the body of the little boy this week to determine a cause of death.
Last week, a Quebec coroner warned parents in that province not to put their babies in car seats for sleeping because of the risk of suffocation. This came after the death of a two-month-old in the town of Pointe Claire.
