A British Columbia RCMP officer has been suspended with pay as he faces criminal charges of sexual assault and uttering threats.

Const. Jason Sammoun of the Ladysmith RCMP was charged with one count of uttering threats and two counts of sexual assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm on Dec. 30, 2024.

All three charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred on April 1 of last year in both Nanaimo and Victoria, according to court records.

A B.C. RCMP spokesperson says Sammoun has been suspended with pay and his duty status is subject to continuous review.

"Immediately upon learning of the circumstances, a Code of Conduct investigation was initiated and remains ongoing," Sgt. Vanessa Munn said in an emailed statement.

Details of the arrest warrant and supporting documents in the case have been sealed against public disclosure, according to the Nanaimo court registry.

A spokesperson for the provincial prosecution service declined to discuss the case Friday.

"As this matter is now before the court, the B.C. Prosecution Service will not be releasing additional information or commenting further at this time," Ann Seymour said in an emailed statement.

Sammoun is scheduled to make his first appearance in a Nanaimo courtroom on Jan. 30.
