A one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage built with natural materials on one of B.C.'s Southern Gulf Islands is once again Canada's most bookmarked listing on Airbnb.
The short-term rentals website posted its annual list of the properties most frequently added to users' "wish lists" on Tuesday.
Canada's most lusted-after getaway was a listing called "Unique Cob Cottage," the same accommodation that ranked fourth overall on lists released in January 2015 and 2016. This year, Cob Cottage came in eighth worldwide.
The cottage is hand-sculpted with natural and sustainable materials, the Mayne Island listing says, and rents for about $120 per night.
The property has a five-star review on the site, with previous guests praising the welcoming host, pastoral setting and extra amenities. Those staying at the cottage are permitted to roam the property with the resident sheep and chickens.
"This little corner of the world is nothing short of spectacular," a guest wrote earlier this year.
"If you're looking for a little taste of the fairytale experience, you've found it!"
Top 10 wish-listed properties world-wide
Another fairytale-style property – a secluded treehouse in Atlanta, Ga. – was Airbnb's most wish-listed property overall, a title the listing has held since 2015.
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom space consists of three separate areas connected by rope bridges built in the trees behind a house located minutes from Atlanta's downtown core. The property rents for about $500 per night.
In second place is a three-bedroom, four-bathroom villa in Labenne, France, which guests can rent for about half the price of the treehouse. The villa surrounded by trees has a fenced-in garden, pool and large deck.
Third is a modern luxury apartment in Barcelona, Spain, which sleeps eight and costs about $430 per night. The condo is about a 10-minute walk to tourist attractions, and is close to bars, restaurants and public transit, the listing says.
Also making the list is a castle in North West England which has "15 grand rooms" to choose from. Guests are treated to breakfast and have full run of the 176-year-old castle and grounds. Rooms rent for about $189 per night.
A German yurt, Australian villa, Greek "cave house," Brazilian glass house and Mexican loft rounded out the top ten.
Other highlights on Airbnb's list
The properties on the list ranged from small apartments and tiny treehouses to villas and castles on sprawling grounds. Unique types of accommodations that made the most wish-listed also included a double-decker bus in Nairobi, Kenya, which sleeps six.
Site users also wish-listed a beachfront lighthouse in Medulin, Croatia and tents in Namibia, Swaziland and Jordan.
Others considered renting a private island in Belize, which sleeps six for about $600 and offers swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and more.
